No cut and dry answer because apples to apples situations may not exist
Wrestling is allotted 9.9 scholarships and has 10 starting spots so a lot depends on the amount of scholarship money tied up with current wrestlers and projecting lineups well into the future. Compare that to football where you have 85 scholarships for 22 starting positions or basketball with 13 scholarships for 5 starting positions, meaning nearly every athlete even on the team is getting a full ride.
If Penn State offers a grayshirt or walk on spot but VT offered 80% scholarship, does that count as beating them “head to head”? Add to that the fact that we don’t even know how scholarship money is allotted to any given athlete and it’s extremely difficult to make definitive statements about recruiting specifics.
